Robinhood Accelerates Global Expansion with Chain Mainnet, Stock Tokens, AI Trading, and New DeFi Suite

by Megan Forsyth

Robinhood has unveiled one of its most ambitious product expansions yet, launching its own blockchain network, introducing tokenized stocks to more than 120 countries, expanding decentralized finance (DeFi) offerings, and bringing AI-powered trading to cryptocurrencies. Announced during the company’s Robinhood Presents: The World is Flat keynote in London, the new products highlight Robinhood’s strategy to bridge traditional finance with blockchain technology while accelerating its international expansion.

The announcements come as competition intensifies among brokerages and crypto exchanges racing to capitalize on tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), decentralized finance, and artificial intelligence. By combining these technologies into a single ecosystem, Robinhood aims to make blockchain-based investing more accessible to mainstream users.

Robinhood Chain Enters Public Mainnet

Leading the announcements is the public launch of Robinhood Chain, the company’s new Layer-2 blockchain built on the Arbitrum technology stack. Designed for tokenized real-world assets and decentralized applications, the network offers built-in support for lending, borrowing, and other DeFi services while providing developers with a permissionless platform to build on.

Robinhood has partnered with several established blockchain companies to support the network. Uniswap will deploy a dedicated automated market maker (AMM) to provide liquidity, while Pleiades is launching its own AMM focused on professional trading. Infrastructure providers Alchemy, BitGo, and Chainlink will supply developer tools, custody, and oracle services.

Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Crypto and International, said the company wants to remove the technical barriers that have traditionally limited DeFi adoption.

“We’re bringing the best of traditional finance and DeFi together, and in doing so, expanding financial ownership to every corner of the globe.”

Tokenized Stocks Expand Globally

Robinhood also introduced Stock Tokens, allowing eligible users in more than 120 countries to trade tokenized equities through the Robinhood Wallet. Availability varies depending on local regulations.

Unlike conventional brokerage accounts, Stock Tokens can trade 24/7 on Robinhood Chain. Users can also deploy them into lending pools or use them as collateral across DeFi applications, giving tokenized equities additional utility beyond price exposure.

Trading will be available through decentralized exchanges including Uniswap, Rialto, Lighter, Arcus, and 1inch.

Robinhood noted that the assets are tokenized debt securities that track the value of underlying stocks rather than providing direct ownership or shareholder rights. Its existing tokenized equity product will continue under the name Classic Stock Tokens in the Robinhood Europe app.

The launch reflects the growing interest across financial markets in bringing traditional assets onto blockchain infrastructure.

Robinhood Earn Brings DeFi Lending to the Main App

The company is also rolling out Robinhood Earn, its first decentralized lending product integrated directly into the Robinhood app for eligible U.S. customers.

Robinhood Earn allows users to lend dollar-backed USDG stablecoins through a self-custody wallet while earning an estimated annual yield of around 7%.

The lending infrastructure is powered by the Morpho protocol, with support from partners including Steakhouse, Ethena, Spark, and Maple. Robinhood also said insurance covering certain cyber and smart contract risks has been arranged through Lloyd’s of London and RELM.

The product represents another step toward simplifying decentralized finance for retail investors by embedding blockchain services into a familiar investing platform.

AI Trading and New Derivatives

Robinhood is also expanding its AI capabilities with Agentic Accounts for cryptocurrency trading. Following the launch of AI-powered trading for stocks and options earlier this year, eligible U.S. customers will soon be able to connect AI models to Robinhood’s Trading MCP infrastructure, allowing automated trading strategies to execute within user-defined capital and risk limits.

The company emphasized that users remain in control by deciding how much capital an AI agent can deploy and by setting safety guardrails before trades are executed.

Robinhood also announced broader access to perpetual futures. Eligible users can now trade crypto perpetuals through decentralized exchange Lighter within Robinhood Wallet, while European customers will gain access to perpetual contracts tied to commodities, ETFs, and foreign exchange markets, including gold, silver, Brent crude, WTI crude, and EUR/USD, with leverage of up to 10x. U.S. crypto traders will also benefit from new maker order types offering fees as low as 0% for qualifying trading volumes.

International Growth Accelerates

Alongside the new products, Robinhood announced several milestones in its global expansion. The company now serves nearly 28 million customers across 38 countries and plans to launch cryptocurrency trading in the United Kingdom soon.

Robinhood also officially entered Canada following its acquisition of WonderFi, offering zero trading commissions for Canadian crypto customers through September 30. In Asia, Robinhood’s Singapore business has secured a Capital Markets Services licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, bringing it closer to offering brokerage services in one of the region’s leading financial centers.

A Broader Push Into Blockchain Finance

Robinhood’s latest announcements represent its strongest commitment yet to integrating blockchain into mainstream investing. Rather than treating crypto as a separate asset class, the company is building an ecosystem that combines tokenized stocks, decentralized lending, AI-powered trading, and derivatives on its own blockchain infrastructure.

As tokenization and DeFi continue to gain momentum among both institutional and retail investors, Robinhood is positioning itself as a platform that connects traditional financial markets with the next generation of on-chain services while expanding its footprint across global markets.
